ROOTED MESSAGES

Ingeborg Ertinger & Thomas Roebers, Rooted Messages, 2020.

In 2020, the pandemic inspired Amsterdam based coach Ingeborg Ertinger and filmmaker Thomas Roebers to interview 16 indigenous wisdom keepers from around the world, asking them “What does the world need to hear right now?” With their insights they produced Rooted Messages, a complitation of short, 5-minutes video messages to remind us of the timeless wisdom of indigenous peoples. The videos offer lessons to move forward by reconciling and reconnecting our relationship with the Earth, humanity and ourselves.

Te Ngaehe Wanikau of the Māori people in New Zealand is a Māori tumuaki: leader, guide, spokesman and guardian authority for the mountainous region in Tongariro National Park. Te Ngaehe supports his tribe with mediation and negotiations to effectively co-manage the sacred Māori environment together with local agencies. “Upon the chill winds blowing from the sacred peaks of our ancestor mountain Tongariro, the heartbeat of our people, I was born.”
