He currently publishes a Substack newsletter called One Thing, covering taste and cultural consumption. He is based in Washington, DC.
Kyle’s latest book, Filterworld: How Algorithms Flattened Culture (2024), dives into how algorithms dictate not only the digital content consumed by society, but also shape our culture, highlighting their influence on human behaviour and creativity. Kyle explores how we now live in 'an era of algorithmic culture', and brings his sharp insights into the impact of platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Spotify on our cultural and social ecosystems. He indicates that in Filterworld, it becomes difficult to know who you are, as culture and cultural taste become more and more homogenised.
